Mobile, AL
Working under the belief that nothing is either too large or small to handle, Austal recently called upon S J & L, Inc. to assist with the rollout of their latest Super Ferry. The ship needed to be moved forward approximately forty-five (45’) feet in order to complete last minute owner elected modifications to the rear of the vessel. Using two (2) JD 250D Articulated Dump Trucks, S J & L was able to safely ease this 351 foot long and 79 foot wide vessel forward in a matter of minutes. Dwarfing our trucks, the ultimate goal of safely moving this vessel for our client while saving them time and money was a rousing success.
The City of Mobile, facing continual erosion problems and elevated water elevations within Spring Creek hired S J & L for the first phase of improvements to the creek. In addition to the construction of approximately 7,600 CY of gabion wall, additional work included a sediment clean-out basin and deepening and widening of the existing 2,630 LF channel to increase capacity. After channel excavation, a scour protection apron was constructed to provide a solid foundation before constructing the gabion walls which varied in size from six (6’) to nine (9’) feet in height. S J & L was presented the award for “New Municipal Utility Construction Under $5 Million” by The Alabama Associated General Contractors of America, Inc. on January 10, 2003 for the construction of this project.
